I am Dr. Vanessa Echeverria, an Assistant Professor at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) at Guayaquil, Ecuador. I also lead the Learning Analytics and Educational Technologies (LAET) Research Group at the Information Technology Center (CTI - ESPOL).

I worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Human-Computer Interaction Institute at Carnegie Mellon University, advised by Prof. Vincent Aleven, Prof. Nikol Rummel, and Dr. Kenneth Holstein. I earned my Ph.D. degree in 2020 in the Connected Intelligence Centre at the University of Technology Sydney, Australia, advised by Prof. Simon Buckingham-Shum and Dr. Roberto Martinez-Maldonado.

My work explores the design, development, and evaluation of feedback tools to support group activities tailored to teachers' and students' needs. I exploit the richness of physical and digital learning environments using multimodal data and analytics derived from several sensors to capture teachers' and students' data. I also examine new methods for analyzing and visualizing meaningful multimodal data. I sit in a transdisciplinary research space to leverage HCI and AI disciplines by co-designing with users to adapt and adopt educational AI solutions to their needs.

I hold a B.Sc. in Computer Science from ESPOL, Ecuador, and an M.Sc. degree in Artificial Intelligence from KULeuven, Belgium.
